Objectivity in journalism is a main topic for debate in media, communication and journalism studies, and has been the subject of intensive historical and sociological research. Objectivity in journalism is known as a myth. There are six steges of objectivity the first stage is the ability to suspend judgment while you’re looking at the facts. The second stage ismdesty. The third stage is to take all the facts that you’ve accumulated and honestly process them into a pattern. The fourth stage is the ability to betray friends. The fifth stage is the ability to ignore stereotypes. The sixth and final stage is a willingness to be a little dull.
Inverted Pyramid
The inverted pyramid is used to write stories in newspapers. It is basically an upside down triangle put in about three sections with the top section, being the most inportant, included Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? it was about two short paragraphs and had a “hook”. The second section was less important that the first and it included crucial information. The third had just extra information like blogs and assessment of the journalist. I think that this pyramid is a really good way of writing news because of the was it is formated with the most important information on top and as you go down you have less important information.
Associated Press
Associated Press is an american non-profit news agency in new york city. The AP has been braking news since it was created in 1846. That year, five New York City newspapers got together to fund a pony express route through Alabama in order to bring news of the Mexican War north more quickly than the U.S. Post Office could deliver it. AP delivered news by pigeon, pony express, railroad, steamship, telegraph and teletype in the early years. In 2005, a digital database was created to hold all AP content, which has allowed the agency to deliver news instantly and in every format to the ever expanding online world. 
Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense”
Thomas Paine “Common Sense” talked about american independence. His argument begins with reflections about goventment and religion and also about colonial situation. Paine begins by distinguishing between government and society. According to paine, society is everything constructive and good that people join together to accomplish. Government is an institution whose purpose is to protect life, liberty, and property. Paine then considers an imagined scenario in which a small group of people has been placed on an island, and cut off from the rest of society. In time these people developed a very strong relationship. Paine also thinks that people would be much happier if they are able to create the laws that rule them. He also discussed in detail american situations. Paine says that as a colony of Britain, America lacks respectability on the international scene. Pain also said that it is urgent that colonies declare their independence. 
Muckraking
Muckrakers are journalists that seek out and expose the misconduct of prominent people or of high-profile organization. They have been in america since the late 1800s. Muckraking journalists didnt write articles about news events, but about injustices or abuses, bringing them to the attention of the American public. This journalism exposed the truth about business and politics, muckrakers were sometimes criticized for their work. Muckrakers mainly wrote to criticize businesses, government, and politics and made them look bad. President roosevelt gave a speech in 1906, in which he agreed with many of the charges against the muckrakers. 
William Randolph Hearst
William Randolph Hearst influences publishing, politics, motion pictures, the art world and everyday american life. April 29, 1863 William, son of George and Phoebe Hearst, had the opportunity to explore the world due to his dad successful mining career. When he was ten he was able to explore Europe with his mother to gather ideas and inspiration from the scale of castles, art and history. He purchased the new york early journal which was the second newspaper he work on during his life. He started one of the first print-media companies to enter radio broadcasting and was an early pioneer of television. He was also a major producer of movies newsreels and he was credited with creating the comic strip. Hearst got married and had five sons and died on August 14, 1951.
Zenger Trial
The journalist, John Peter Zenger, came to america in his early teens he worked pretty much as a servant printer for William Bradford before he opened his own print shop in 1726. Years later he started “New York Weekly Journal” the second paper in New York. In the journal they found criticism about the governor William Crosby so he put Zenger in jail even though Zenger didnt write or edit that paper. Zenger was in jail for 35 weeks but his trial only took two days and he was found not guilty. His story was on the front page of his newspaper about how he was freed but it wasnt the first story out there about him being freed.
Yellow Journalism
Yellow journalism was created when the ideas of William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer II came together. Cartoons were being put into the newspapers so Pulitzer created his own cartoon called “the yellow kid”. Hearst played a major role in the spanish-american war he would write about what was going on during the war, but what really is yellow journalism? Well yellow journalism is “journalism that is based upon sensationalism and crude exaggeration”. The term “yellow journalism” was created due to the conflict between Pulitzer and Hearts. The yellow kid had stories about public opinion and important events. 
Penny Press
The penny press was a newspaper that is sold for just a penny. Other papers were sold for six cents, more people would buy the one for just a penny because labor and lower classes were all able to afford it. The publishers of the penny press newspapers were Francisco and Caldwell this newspaper was published from 1859-1860. With this paper the news and journalism became more important because more people would know about it. The newspaper was more appealing than the six cents paper because more stories about police stations and courts were included. The Sun was the first popular penny paper it was published by Benjamin H. Day. This newspaper changed the way newspapers are published today.
Publick Occurrences
Publick Occurrences was the first published newspaper in Boston, Massachusetts. It was published on September 25, 1690 by Benjamin Harris. The newspaper was four pages long and it had stories about local news, tragedy, and gossip. Boston’s Publick Occurences both forreign and domestic was printed monthly. Out of the four pages in the newspaper three is them actually had news and the last page was blank so that people could write down messages and pass it down to other family members or friends. The first issue that was printed was unlicensed and had some shocking stories about the king of France so the newspaper was banned and no second edition was printed.
