The first amendment was written because people demanded freedom. The first amendment protects freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition. The U.S. Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787 but The Bill of Rights went into effect on December 15, 1791. I think that the first amendment is one of the best things we could ever have because without it we would not be able to do the things we to today.
